Special Olympics Kelowna is looking for an assistant head coach for the SOBC Kelowna Track program with the intent that candidate will assume the role of head coach in 2015.

The SOBC Kelowna track program begins April 10th and runs every Tues and Thurs 5:30-7pm at the Apple Bowl until the end of June 2014. Our dynamic program coaches approx. 30-35 athletes who range in skills from elite to developmental and ages 6-60. We coach athletes of every ability to compete in 3-5 of the following events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m and 10,000m and field events include long jump and shot put. Coaching skills in athletics are appreciated but not necessary as SOBC will ensure the candidate has opportunity to train as a coach and to develop sport specific knowledge. The right candidate will have the capacity to have fun and to communicate effectively, the ability to manage a team of approximately 10 fantastic coaches, and to learn the skills necessary to develop training schedules and set goals for athletes and coaches. The candidate will have the commitment to take athletes to one major SOBC competition each sport program year and to support athletes in their attempts to move through Regional Qualifiers, Provincial Games, National Games and World Games.
